Whitetip reef sharks
Tintorera is the name given to this small reef shark, also known as the white-tipped shark, Triaenodon obesus; and it is one of the 400 species of sharks in the world
Galapagos is the ideal habitat for this species of sharks, so it is very likely that you will see them throughout your trip within the islands.
Many times we find them near the banks or in shallow waters. They are usually in small groups, resting during the day in crevices or caves of the lava reefs.
It is distinguished from others by presenting the upper section of the dorsal and tail fins white, frequently the second dorsal and the lower lobe of the tail fin also white.
Whitetip reef Sharks can measure 2.10 meters, are very curious and approach swimmers or divers.
Whitetip reef sharks prefer to feed at night and their main diet consists of mollusks, small fish, crustaceans, octopus, etc.
